i recently got an 01 GTi with the stock monsoon stereo system. i still have my amp/sub/wiring out of my old car and it would fit just fine, so i'm wondering if there are any sub outputs on the stock head unit? if not i assume i'm going to have to get a new head unit, which isn't totally out of the question but more of a pain in the ass/costs more $$$. i'd also lose the use of my 6-cd changer i assume.
anyway, can i hook up my sub to the stock stereo or am i out of luck without a new headunit?

They deff make RCA outputs that can tap into your speaker outputs in the back of your deck. The factory deck does NOT have any type of RCA outputs. You will be better off with a new head unit, the reason for that is because any type of head unit will put out more wattage than a factory deck.

exactly what vdubjetta2005, you can buy a RCA output adapter, just a little box you splice in to have them, but you'd be better off with a new one.

thanks for the replies... new question. there's an amp in the back next to my cd changer, does that strictly run the cd changer or does it also power any of the speakers? if it does i'd obviously need 2 pre-outs on a new head unit to keep the speakers going strong, but if it just runs the cd changer i could care less...
also, does anyone have any suggestions on where to run the wires from dash/battery to the rear? thanks!
