2000 jetta wont honk!! can anyone help!!

Hello, um i wanted to see if anyone here can help me know what i can do to make my car honk!....the problem is that it honks for like half a second and then i doesnt at all. I discovered this because i thought it was the fuse n i noticed that everytime i put a new fuse and honked it got burned!!! um i would like to know if anyone could give me advice as to what i could do before i take it to the mechanic!!..it is important because i have to take it to get the new inspection sticker and if i cant get it to honk it wont pass it!! eres gotta be a short somewhere in your wiring. if you dont have a bentley manual, get one, its gonna be your new best friend when youre trying to sort out the wiring. all i can say is good luck. just check all the wiring for your horn till you find the problem
