Does anyone have a new Jetta, manaul transmission, that while changing gears under "stress" faster acceleration, etc, that sounds like a rock or large object is hitting the underbody? If so, have you had it checked and found out what it is?

hmm..that sounds bad..i would get it looked at..find a shop with no rack fee, and have them look at it for you.

you sure you're not just grinding the gears?

I also have experienced the same noise. I thought it was back fire but the dealer said it would code if it did. Ultimately they had no answer for the noise. I also had them check out a rattle that sounds like it's in the exhaust on cold starts. The dealer said they were aware of the noise but they didn’t have a fix for it.

A rattle like that sounds like a pooched cat.
If you can't find anything visually, start it up
hold and put a lot of pressure on the exhaust system
with your hand, tighten it up, see if it's rattling against
something. Might just be something loose in the muffler
or a bad cat like I said. Stuff rattles lol process of elimination
is the only way i've ever found noises.

Hey, just for giggles...my heat shield for the muffler
rattles, cause it's cheap and rusts quickly, and the bolt drops
out. Sometimes it does, other times it doesn't. Damn VW's
everything rattles lololololol
