you will need a fine grit like 250-400 grit. all you will need to do i rough it up and that paint is not all to hard i would imagen.

i'm gonna get a air spray gun and such to use, i also have a few places i need to bondo cause rust is taking its toll, maybe take more paint off in those places and stuff.

you do relize that what you want to do is a bigger project than you think right???
the spry gun will work fine in all but you will need to be very particular with it.
and in the bondo place it needs to be down to the bare metal.

yea i figured about the bondo, and if i mess up with the paint, i'll just sand it down again, i'm trying mot to spend a fortune on this car, i picked it up for $800 from some lady, it also has some linkage problems, i don't know if i really want to get in there right now lol

to the tranny, hard to get it in gear sometimes, the old VW's have skidplate/floor boards, i might want to remove that sometime

another thing to consider when painting, wet sanding...the car will look better all smoothed out the n seeing runs in the paint. Also, Im sure you already knew this but sand the bondo and all that even with everything otherwise it just wont look right. I used to wrok at a body shop and would have to primer, base coat, paint, wet sand, and then paint again...but they came out beautiful. Look into it

it gets rid of all the orange peel (no paint is perfect, when you look at it, it looks like an ornage peel...and the burs) 600 grit-1500 grit sandpaper....put the sandpaper in a bucket of water, you sand it like that in between coats. Dont wet sand it too much otherwise you will take the finish off, just be careful, doing this will blend the paint together and make it uniform, and really, really glossy!!!! This is what we did when we would showroom paint cars, Im talking glossy glossy!! Also, make sure after you base coat the car, in order to get a nice finish clear coat it, after you clear it, you can wet sand with like 1000 grit sandpaper but be careful cause you can sand through the clear coat, then you gotta do it again. Just when you're sanding be careful and do everything evenly, and uniform.
