hey guys, new to the forum, so i'll be using it if something goes wrong with the car or any updates after i hook it up!!..
just got a 2002 jetta
drives great except for that damn enginge light that keeps popping up!!!
went to get an oil change and had my mechanic take a look at it.. he hooked it up to the machine and shooted it out "P0490" which means.. "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit High"
anyone knows or can tell me in simple words what it means and how can i fix it???
he said he didnt know but he didnt think it was anything bad. nothing broken.. so he says.. to just keep driving it if it doesnt feel bad.. but i dunno.. because he has erased the code twice already..
anyone out there.. help/??! thanks.. a million...

EGR valve on your 02 jetta is electronically controlled, it is possible the pintle inside the valve that moves to allow more or less exhaust recirculation back inside the intake manifold, is contaminated with soot or heavy carbon deposit..if evrything else fail. try removing the whole egr assembly and use carburetor cleaner to clean out the valve itself.
