Hwllo !
I have a golf 2 with starting prolems and i hope you can give me a hint to fix it! It has a ecotronic system with a carburettor wich i think could be partially electronical manouwered. The idling is about 2000 rpm, and when i pull out the contact to what i think is the idle control, nothing happens and the idle is still at 2000 rpm. To start it i have to close a throttle valve ontop of the carburettor. Does anyone know what this valve could be ? It seems to be manouwered by a solenoid on the side. When i put v batt on the solenoid, the throttlevalve closes. But there is no voltage to the electric connector on the valve. Ihave tried to read in the Haynes but i would like to get a better overlook of the system, and especially the carburettor unit. the engine is 1.6 l petrol and it is of 88 year model.

Not sure of what your saying, but I think your talking
about what is known as a choke, that is a flat plate (VALVE) on top of the carburator, If the Choke isn't adjusted
correct it wont start, It has to be adjusted to be closed
when the engine is cold or cool. then as the engine runs and gets warm the choke will open automaticly and the engine will run correct. if the choke doesn't turn off ( that would be the valve or flat plate would be standing straight
up and down) then you will have a high idle, about 2000
rpm. If that control valve is electrical and has no voltage,
you must know where the current comes from that runs it,
some cars, the current comes from the alternator and as
the engine runs it turns off the choke. On other cars the
current for the valve will come from the ON side of the
ignition switch. You will have to read the manual to see
where the current is supplied from.
