Hello fellow VDub owners. I just purchased a very much loved 1970 whose owner passed away over two years ago so she has been sitting around waiting on me.
Now I need to learn .... well, ALL about her. I ordered a book, for compleate idiots...I kind of qualify... and  I'm scrubbing her up. I can't get her started at the moment.... the starter light comes on, clicks and immediately goes out and nothing happens on the second try. New battery. What does that little "B" light on the dash mean? Battery?

Thanks for any help!

hi
the "B" redlight is a brake  indicator.

several manuals are available.  Bentley publishing has a great VW repair manual, about $30 on the web

John  Muir book the compleat guide for idiots (?) is also a great read.

With regard to the starter....assuming you have a good battery,. have you checked the battery connections.. particularly the ground strap.

Also the starter could be the problem.... in that the solenoid may not be functioning and not inserting the strater gear.

see ya!

And it WAS the ground strap!!!
Purring like a lion she is now!
I'm ordering necessities for pasisng inspection now, wiper blades, seat belts.
I bought John Muir's book and am reading it cover to cover.
The title seemed to suit me.

Thank you for taking your time to give a response.
