Hello, I am new here and and finishing a dune buggy started about 10 years ago and has had nothing done since. Anyway, I am looking at new parts, and was wondering what is the easiest way of determining the year. I know it is not a super beetle, and I am not sure of any VIN numbers on the frame (The metal body is off, there is only a fibreglass body on it now). Also, what is the easiest way to find the size of the engine?

Thank you for any help at all, Craig

Hi Craig

This site gives chassis and engine numbers for the different years.

http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/year_model.htm#T-2%20%20Bus

If you have the basic chassis with the "tunnel" you should find the chassis number stamped into the metal on top of the tunnel just forward of the removable inspection cover plate which is just forward of the transaxle housing.

If you have the engine, the number will be stamped into the metal of the engine case...just below the generator mounting stand. Once you have the engine number you can look for it on the above website and determine the engine size.

Hope this is helpful!
