Hey, I'm new to this forum but I've got a question. I just bought a 04' Jetta GLS 1.8T off lease. I wanted to get more air without spending a lot and wanted it to be easy so I bought a K&N High Flow filter to replace my stock one. I've heard that they are bad for the MAF sensor but I've had it in for about 3 days now and it hasn't done a thing. Are these accusations true or false about them? Also, will a high flow filter increase gas mileage? If so by how much? Thanks

I duno about the gas mileage, but the filter shouldn't a do a thing.  All it's doing is allowing a lil bit more air, that's all.  I don't have a problem.

i compleatly removed my panel filter and just put a cone filter on my maf housing and a filter for the breather hose on my 1.8t and it runs great ive had no problems

Yea but that defeats the purpose of "cold air".  you are just sucking in hot air now that is swirling around the engine bay.

thats why i got a heat sheild, its a bad idea to have one of the cold air intakes that put the filter down by the wheel wells where i live cause ive had several friends (not in vw's) suck up water and mess their engines all up. and my frontmount cools the hell out of my charge air anyways
