Key won't come out of the ignition!

I have an '02 TDI Beetle and I can't get the key out of the ignition...I just had the brake light switch (the recall...) replaced and was wondering if the two problems are connected?  They seemed to happen at the same time, or within minutes of each other.  It's in the shop right now, but does anyone know if it's part of any recall (or that same brake light switch recall)?  Apparently it's like $750 to fix! Yikes.  Any info would be great - thanks!!
