I recently aquired a 1996 Trek Model. So I have a couple questions in regards to the door locking system. I would like to make it work properly, but first need to understand how it functions. No I dont have a manual. First off, the door contact switch on drivers jam is missing, and I will get a new switch for that. As of now the locks do not work. Also when I pushed the button on the center console for the "Lock" indicator. At least I assume that to be what it is, I just hear like solenoids running in the back doors. Also I notice on the drivers door, next to the lock pull there appears to be a red led there. So any info on this system would be helpful in how it functions properly.
Thanks in Advance!

open the drivers door and pull back the boot over the wires
see if any are broken
i think 96 is still vacume opperated if you hear a motor running for a little bit then you have a leak in one of the door jams
under the wire boots

So the locks are operated by vacuum, which explains the yellow tube I saw. But the wiring is for the security system then?

So from the outside, then the system is operated by the door key then? Or can you push the lock button on center console and it will do it also as you exit?

ya thats how it should work and as you hold the key in the lock it will roll up the windows too
or roll them down when you unlock if you have power windows
