Radio safe mode

Hello All! I got some work done on my car the other day and when i got it back my safe mode was on! I was reading the owners manual and it told me that I should call the VW dealer to get the code to turn it off! When I called they said I would have to take the radio out to look at the number on the back and to me that does not make sense because if you are steeling my radio why would they put the code on the radio to turn off the safe mode. Please help!

have u taken out the radio to see whether the code is on it?
