red lite on

The red dash lite on my 73 beetle comes on dimly and sometimes gets little brighter only when driving in the rain and not in any pattern. Sometomes reving the engine makes it go off and sometimes idle does.

Any suggestions?

check actual voltage at abttery and from alt/generator. voltage regulator probably going bad or weak.check all connections are clean and tight also.
