Does anyone know what the law is about how fast I can pull away from a green light? I mean if I'm not squealing my tires or racing anyone why does it matters how fast I do it? I mean if everyone around me was driving a scooter would I have to maintain the speed of traffic around me? Once I get near the speed limit I let off so speeding isn't an issue.

Did you get a ticket or something? The law is excessive acceleration....I've gotten a ticket for that before, but not coming off a green light. I fought it and won.

No, I never got a ticket. The problem is that when the GTI is working perfectly, it's almost impossible to NOT leave the light too fast. I was just wondering why the police would even care if it isn't hurting anyone or exceeding the speed limit. It is bizarre that there is a term called "excessive acceleration" in the land of the muscle car.

I never really thought about how fast you could leave a green light. I know they give tickets here for "illegal start" or something like that but I thought that was only if you wheeles were squeeling or something

I was speaking wih a traffic opps copper, who says so long as its not a continued squeel, like a full smoking burnout, you may accelerate as fast as you want, so long as you dont speed. if, you sqeek the tyres across the line on a rushed start, they arnt going to worrie to much
