Hello,

I own a 99 Jetta GL. Recently it has been making a horrendous rattling noise and failing to accelerate properly. When I took it in, I was told that the catalytic converter was shot and that it would cost $600 to repair. When I turned up at the place to pick up the car (they couldn't fix it until Monday), they told me that they had ordered the wrong converter for it because they had not realized the Jetta was a later model.

They then told me that it would now cost more than a $1,000 to repair it which unfortunately is just not something I can afford at the moment.

My Dad has a couple of mechanic friends and when he told them out the situation, they said that it shouldn't cost nearly that much. The only thing that they wanted to know is if the engine is DOHC. I didn't get a manual when I purchased the car and when I looked around the engine, all that I could find is that it is an AEG.

Does anybody know where I can find this out at?

Thanks for any information anyone can provide!
-Liz
