I just bought a 1969 bug. Guy said it was having problems with going, but he had gotten it started six months ago... yeah i replaced the battery to find the starter was dead and have replaced it. Tried to turn the engine over but to no luck. The only engine light turns on but theres not even a sound when i turn the key. I'm kinda new at this and any suggestions would be usefull.

I'm not telling you this is the problem, however the ignition switch was not so good in the 1968 and up VW's, and they were a pain to replace. You are going to have to inspect the wireing system from front to rear to be sure it's all working, a lot of people liked to butcher the wiring and do it their way.

Grab the fan belt with both hands and try to turn the engine over (it goes clockwise). If you can freely turn it you're ok and have the electrical demons to fight. If it's really, really hard or doesn't turn at all then he killed the engine and got over on ya.
