I was given a 196? something vw three door bus/pickup. I now have to go to florida and pick it up. it is somewhat rough but very repairable, with the original motor still. I'm new to these things, having recently converted from all american. I have a passat tdi and a fox right now. Are these busses worth fixing? are they as rare as I'm being lead to believe? I was told only a few hundred of the three doors made it here, I don't know. I know this would be the place to get the answers. Any help will be appreciated.

The vehicle is a VW pick up not a bus. However it's on
the Bus chassis and bus mechanical parts are the same.
They were very popular in their days, but people would
over work them, and they didn't hold up to heavy work.
They had a governer on the engine that had a top
speed of 62 mph, and that was screeming the engine to
do that, they had the bug engine and was geared down
so they could carry a small load, they were not ment
to be used on the interstate, but around town for area
delivery or usage. If you drove them as they were intended they did fair, but the engine would over heat and
warp the engine block. They soon became unpopular and
sales droped, that made what was left rare.
I would say it should be a good one the restore.
