Hi, I have a 1991 transporter pickup, water-cooled, 4-cyl. I live in Montreal, Canada, where the daily winter average temperatures are between -5 to -9 degrees Celsius (23-16 deg. F.). At least half the time the truck won't start when the temperature is below freezing. It won't even turn over. We have tried, in the three years we've had it, to address the problem by changing the starter, checking the wiring, and even putting a relay in the circuit to ensure that the starter receives all the juice the battery has to offer. Even boosts from other vehicles can't start it. The battery is good, and our garage has given up on the problem. I know we cannot be the only vw truck/minivan owners to have suffered this problem. If anyone here has encountered this problem and licked it, I would be most grateful to hear about it. Thanks!
