When you replaced the spark plugs, did you use the correct plug or did you use those so called super plugs like split fire and so on. UNLESS the car calls for the super gismo type plugs every one is so hot for, they will emitt a ion field and upset the computer, and cause misfire. Over filling the oil, unless it's a quart or more wont hurt anything, despite of popular belief. It will not blow seals, all it will do is blow out what it doesn't need and you would have a oily engine on the out side.

They were plat plugs, think Autolites, nothing special. I am thinking my precat O2 sensor is clogged.

If the o2 sensor is carboned it will turn on the ck engine light and not miss but run rich. If your car doesn't call for the palt plugs they could cause the miss. I had a vehicle that I installed Bosch palt plugs into and it ran great for a couple of days, then started missing, the dealer said the plugs were the problem, I didn't believe them, but installed the plug that was on the chart on the hood and it fixed the miss.

There is usually a sticker under the hood area some where that gives the spark plug type and gap. I would bet the VW plugs you took out are Bosch, with VW on them. It would be easy enough to make a phone call to a dealer just to find out what plug goes in it, and then go to the friendly neighbor hood auto store and purchase them. Even a Hanes repair manual from Auto Zone will tell you what you need to know.

I tried taking #1 plug and putting it in to cyl #4. Same results, and the plug in #4 originally was definately fouled compared to #1.

Going to get a new catalytic converter and a new Mass Air flow sensor, and new O2 sensor... thats next. I heard there was an emissions recall on the 02 and prior... I am going to call this 800 number to see if i can still get it, since its good until the car has 100K.

I got a recall notice in the mail. My symptoms don't match the acutal recall. I brought the car to the local garage, they will be looking at it this monday. hoping its something simple. then when its running i will drop it off at the local VW $tealer$hip to see if it needs a new cat. then sell it and never look back.

$1300 for repairs. 4 new injectors @ $250 a peice, and new ignition wires. Sell your old golfs ASAP. they burn oil and are WAY under powered. JUNK JUNK JUNK. Next car will be a Honda/Toyota/Nissan/Kia etc.
