Compliance plate on 71 Beetle

Hello all,

I own a 71 Beetle and i was looking into buying a new engine but i was told that if the current engine came new with the car it would be worth more money to keep this engine.

How do i find out? Do they have a compliance please that lists the engine number.

BTW i am in Australia.

Any help that can be given would be greatly appreciated.

   All vehicles, when manufactured, have a vehicle ID number
( Serial Number) The engine, tranny, and other items will
also have a serial number, they are listed to the vehicle
main serial number and are considered matching numbers
even if they read differently. List you vehicle serial number,
and your engine number and visit a dealer, they can help
