does anyone else have a problem with the automatic choke cooling down faster than the car itself, and then not being able to start the car later because the choke is closed?

Sounds like the choke is adjusted too tight , that would
make the choke close when the spring is just starting to
cool off instead of waiting untill it's cold.
When the engine is cold ( sitting over night cold )
loosen the screws holding the choke element and rotate
it and see the choke plate back off a bit then rotate the
element in the direction to  make it just close and then
tighten the screws.
