ok i had a friend do a check up on the engine. he said he saw a hose not connected. so he hocked it up and then i started the engine and smoke was pouring out of the heater vents and exhaust. also had the cent of anti freeze and gas. the down fall is that my dad thinks its the heater core. but my friend said that it was a cracked head. so if anyone can tell me the problem it would be nice.

Smoke wont pour out the heater vents if you have a cracked head, it would be a heater core cracked. On the other hand a cracked heater core wont cause smoke to pour out the exhaust, that would be antifreeze entering the cylinders, via....blown head gasket, cracked engine block, or cracked head. Summary.....you most likely have a bad heater core and a engine problem.

The heater core leaking, would be antifreeze only. it would cause smoke out the vents, and could drip in the floor or under the hood, depends on where it's located and where the drain is. It has nothing to do with engine oil in any way what so ever. A mix of oil and antifreeze inside the engine block, would be caused by a crack in the head, a crack in the engine block, or a blown head gasket. To repair this would mean tareing down the engine and investigating all the parts, You could install a can of radiator stopleak made by Solder Seal, it's a silver powder and works great. Install it in the radiator and top it up with antifreeze and run the engine for a long while, but be sure the oil is good. You should change the oil anyway. I've done this and got as much as 5 years good engine time out of it with no problems, The silver powder goes into the crack and seals it, if it's a head gasket it wont work as well. AND THIS IS NOT A CORRECT REPAIR, BUT CAN PROVIDE SEVERAL MILES AND YEARS OF SERVICE AT ALMOST NO COST. It could also seal the heater core for a while. But don't use just any kind of radiator stop leak, some of it cloggs up all the works and then you got a problem. The smoke out the heater vents should be white or like steam. that would be hot antifreeze. The smoke out the exhaust........ you didn't say what color it is. BLACK would be gasoline or fuel too rich. WHITE would be antifreeze getting into the engine and burning, then going out the exhaust. IF antifreeze is in the engine oil, it's also getting into a cylinder and being burned when the engine is running. BLUE would be engine oil burning. HEAVY THICK WHITE would be automatic transmission fluid burning. This would be a lot of white smoke............ antifreeze burning would almost look like steam and it would also go away after a short time into the air.
