Hi - I'm new here. I'm here b/c I'm thinking about trading my car for a '73 Super Beetle. I just wanted some opinions on what this car is worth. I have attached a link to a video of the beetle, and some pictures. Please give me your opinions. Here's what I do know about it.

"Original owner, bought new in 1973 and it has been garage kept for most of its 35 years. Recently replaced engine with a 1600 CC single port new rebuilt. It purrs and sips gas. The paint and body are in good shape. I have a new interior sitting in boxes in my basement that I was going to put in, until the hands started shaking.

I've owned the car for 35 years, and when I see a rust spot developing, I cut it out and fiberglass it in.. there was a hole where the battery is located. I sheet-metal that area in. With any old car especially Volkswagen beetles, you have to keep one step ahead of the superficial rust.. The car had an oil change every 3000 miles and a valve adjustment every 6000 miles.. Most of the interior is original with the exception of seat covers.. I have new seat covers sitting in a box in the garage.. The only reason I'm selling the car, is that I have Parkinson's disease, and it is very difficult for me to shift gears.. The car is worth $5,000 on the East Coast, and $8-$10000 on the West Coast.. It has a brand-new rebuilt engine that has 700 miles on the clock.. The car has been repainted twice with the original paint color. It is one of the few automobiles that go up in value every year. Good clean Volkswagen beetles are easy to sell.
I have driven the car all over the USA. It cruises very nicely at 75 mph.... top speed is 95 mph. it has a brand-new heater.. It does have air conditioning. But I took it out...as it was strain on the engine. it has a AM/FM stereo radio. With four speakers.. It's a super beetle and has a curved windshield.. I have a new dashboard cover . In the last two years, I have invested over $2000 in the car.. It has a completely new brake system, new engine, new clutch, new MacPherson strut front end
This car usually attracts a crowd at a parking lot. At a recent car show it collected honors from the judges as best daily driven car..
I took the car out for a drive this afternoon, and I didn't want to take it back home., although the car's 35 years old.... It handles like a new automobile."

Looks like a good catch. Beautiful looks car. Do the European tags come with it? :D It's been shipped over here obviously as it has all the classic Euro bits in place from what I can see from the pics(They are rather small). As long as you care for her she'll treat you well I'm sure.

You're lucky it's got a single port motor instead of the good ol' hesitating dual port! The only thing I'm concerned about is the fiberglass holes throughout the car. A Beetle is a uni body car and if you remove too much metal the car can warp or rip itself apart.
