Hi All,

I am restoring my 74 kombi and looking for some paint colours.  I think I really like this kombi colour scheme http://www.vintagebus.com/gallery/section/image/2103299d.JPG  Hard to tell from a photo.

Does anyone know what this could be or something approximate? The saturn yellow (l13m 2696) used by the karmin ghia is nice but maybe too bright.  I don't think kombi's originally came in such a sunny colour but I've seen a few around.

Any help would be appreciated.  I'm going to use a PPG, ProTec or Spies Hecker acrylic urethane 2 pack (catylist) .

TIA
Luke

Here's some food for thought...what about Dupont, or Sikkens, or anything like that?  Dunno everything about paints, but do know some.  Are you doing this job yourself?  Are you wet sanding it?

Now if I told you you could make candy paint for the cost of clear coat, you’d probably be shocked. All candy has ever been is solvent-based dye mixed with clear coat. Candy paint is transparent clear with a tint of dye to give that deep look.

So want to save hundreds if not thousands of dollars right now? Go talk to a custom interior shop and find out where to buy solvent-based dye, then buy a quart or two, mix it with the clear and test it over your base on a spray card or something.

The only thing you need to wory about is making sure there is no chemical reaction to the dye mixed in clear and the clear sprayed on top of the base. If all goes well, try it out and don’t forget to spray clear on top of your candy to protect the dye from fading.
