jonnyoutram -> green light??? help (2/21/2008 3:18:10 AM)

hi, i have just sold my baby as i am having problems with cash flow. she is a 1.3 1967 bug. she has had a re con engine about 25,000 miles ago, although that was about 7 years age. she runs well, with good compression but after about 25 mins of driving, once shes warm, when you take your foot off the gas pedal at a roundabout or junction the green light on the speedo starts to flicker and is sometimes solid. this is only at idle. as soon as you put your foot down it dissapears. but sometimes the car will stall when the green light is solid and the car is at idle.

does anyone know what my problem is? i want he fixed b4 she goes.

thanks ppl [:)]

OOOOO yea that's right sorry it's really early in da mornin'.  That's why at first I thought it may be a shift light, cause you said stalling out.  Is there any symbols or anything that light up??  I dunno those older ons too well, but from what I do know...sounds like the motor is suffocating.  Sorry I couldn't be more I help, I tried.

Generator light maybe?  Signalling a weak charge at an idle but then going away since the charge gets higher once you speed the engine up?

I dunno, sounds good.  I'm not too sure.

Try having the brushed changed on the generator. Brushes are cheap and it MAY just fix the problem. I had a gen light on constantly on my bug that I fixed by changing the brushes. They'll cost you like $6 to get new brushes. If that doesn't fix it then it might be a problem with the generator itself or the voltage regulator.

Sometimes generators can loosen up and start slipping. Check the generator strap.
