my 96 jetta wont shift into the last gear. it shifts fine into reverse and into the rest of the gears. the kid i got it from said that there was a sensor on the tranny that would fix this problem. what is he talking about because i have no idea

its an automatic. i just brought it to autozone and they pulled up code p1778 which means selnoid ev7 electrical malfuction. is that bad because i dont wanna have to go kill the kid that sold it to me LOL

see if they have sensor, and just replace it.  all you do is unplug the oldo ne and plug in the new one.  Prolly not a big deal, maybe the tranny sensor you were talking about.

Yeah replacing sensors is usually very easy. Get a manual. Your gonna want one anyways.

what kind of manual should i get. whats a good one is what im trying to say.i was also trying to look up parts and the only sensor i saw was a speed  sensor would that cause this kind of problem

there's always the Haynes.  Also you can try ALL-DATA, there should an online version but I know libraries have it.

well i found out what the problem is, it is a bad soleniod valve does any one know anything about this like if there hard to do

great dealer said the transmission needs a valve body because i cant just get the valve and it cost like 960$ what should i do should i see if there is just any transmissons in the junk yard or maybe i should put a vr6 in it how hard is that
