I just bought a 99 jetta and the clutch is acting weird. When twitching from 2nd to 3rd the RPMs seem to bounce around before they settle where ther suppose to be. also my clutch pedal seems a little high when letting out. Im trying to tell if the clutch is going. I was told it is a hydrolic clutch and it is expensive to have replaced. Any ideas???

Kinda sounds like what my 2001 1.8T was doing. The previous owner of the car had major problems with it slipping from 3rd to 4th. He took the car to a local shop (Not a Volkswagen Dealer) and after looking at it they told him the clutch was probably going and wouldnt last much longer. When they ripped the car apart they found small pieces of the clutch in the case and the clutch plates were in really bad shape. and your right, After all was said and done the price was $1,200+ (I Think) so it wasnt cheap. The car ran like new after that though. Luckily the previous owner had this done 2 weeks before i bought it from him. Now i have a brand new clutch and i didnt have to pay one extra dime for it. I hope this isnt the problem with yours, and maybe its not! My only advice is take it to a shop and have them look at it, but i wouldnt recommend taking it to a Volkswagen dealer in this case. Good luck!
