I own a 2003 passat the other day the low oil pressure and stop engine light came on.  I stopped the car and had it towed.  I was told that I proablay have sludge build up due to the fact the I wasn't using synecthic oil,  which I was not aware was  needed.  I am being told that it is an 8 hr job and will proably cost aprox 1500.00,  they did say that if I could prove that I had changed the oil every 2500-3000 miles volkswagon may cover the repair.  I bought the car used and have the records for my oil changes ( at 4000 miles)  but not the previous owners record,   has anyone else had this problem and how did you  resolve it w/ wv

I just had the same problem, I bought a 2002 passat wagon with 75K miles from a VW dealer last week, yesterday the oil warning light came on. I called the dealer they were super cool covered all repairs under warrenty just droped off there this morning (VW Really steped up to the plate on this one, unlike any of the US brands I have owned over the years who don't back there products at all, and people wonder what is happening to american companies, it's simple loss of corporate responsibility and one word greed!). FYI - I found out that in 2004 VW realized they had a problem and issued a service notice and extened the warrenty on these 1.8T engines for an extra 8 years unlimited mileage, I would call and tell them you just purchased the vehicle. It seems to me VW is customer focused hopefully they will step up for you like they did me... As a side note i bought a 2006 VW Jetta TDI for my wife last April -It is an awsome car that was our first VW and now we own 2, I sold my wifes 05' Hummer H3 and my 05' F350 Ford King Ranch pickup for the VW's and i haven't second guessed my decision one bit. VW need alittle extra attention to keep them in top condition but they beat the other crap out there hands down. GOOD LUCK HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS OUT OK FOR YOU!
