knightrs32 -> My 1976 Sunroof Beetle (3/22/2008 8:22:04 AM)

It's been restored with some mods. One piece window kits look nice, but I miss the wings! It was converted to carb, which is really nice, but the motor is blown. The last mechanic to touch it put the flywheel on crooked (didn't get the dowel pins into the holes), so there was a lot of play in the crank, 70 mph, and voila! Connecting rod snapped and punched a 2" square through the top of the block right next to the oil cooler. Surprisingly it was the #4 cylinder that went and #3 still looked great! All is well though, I've got a spare Type II engine that turns over by hand that I'm going to transplant. It's a 1969 57hp that should do the car proud. :) [image]local://upfiles/6760/8D59DD096CE345179CBF62C2B1646736.jpg[/image]
