It's been restored with some mods. One piece window kits look nice, but I miss the wings! It was converted to carb, which is really nice, but the motor is blown. The last mechanic to touch it put the flywheel on crooked (didn't get the dowel pins into the holes), so there was a lot of play in the crank, 70 mph, and voila! Connecting rod snapped and punched a 2" square through the top of the block right next to the oil cooler. Surprisingly it was the #4 cylinder that went and #3 still looked great! All is well though, I've got a spare Type II engine that turns over by hand that I'm going to transplant. It's a 1969 57hp that should do the car proud. :)

This weekend I made my '76 purr again! I took a 1969 Bus engine that sat in an open garage for around 20 years. About 12 hours of work (replacing sheet metal, cleaning) and it fired right up!!

I just wrapped the edges of the running boards in black vinyl yesterday where the paint was peeling off the aluminum.

I'm thinking the car needs a new carb, or at least different jetting. And I'm looking for a reasonably priced new gas tank because I'm tired of cleaning rust out of the filters every week!
