Ok guys, here's the deal and I hope someone can shed some light on this for me!!

So, my car has been idling rough now for about a month then all of a sudden last week it started to shake really bad when I would be on the brakes.  I figured I'd need new brakes because it had been awhile.  Well I called a mechanic that my friend told me about, he got it in the next day and looked at it.  He called me at work later that day and said it wasn't the breaks but he thinks my transmission is going.  Of course I started to worry because I can't afford a new tranny OR a new car payment.

When I picked up the car from that mechanic that day, all of a sudden it started to stall when I would put it into reverse.  Then the next day it stalled when i put it into reverse AND drive.  It doesn't stall everytime though.  If it doesn't stall it just jerks real rough.  When I am at a stop (either at a light or a stop sign) the idle goes down below 1000 RPMS......any suggestions on what it may be BESIDES the transmission??

I don't want to just take it to the VW dealer because A.) it'll take them a week to get it in AND they will have to order parts and B.) it'll cost me 29383923829 dollars.

Please e-mail me because I cannot check this too often since I am at work!   rappleby@blairco.org

Thanks a bunch!!!
