ibby -> Engine cutting off (4/14/2008 7:00:03 AM)

Hi I am new to this forum.

I own a Golf 2.0 Gti recently the engine has been cutting off when I release my foot of the acelarator, and it wont switch back on straight away.  I have had a new battery fitted but this weekend it happened more frequently.  wot could be the problem?

Welcome!  Sounds like MAF sensor problem, or maybe fuel.  I'm leaning towards mass air flow...any engine lights?  codes?

if you installed a battery you might need to have the throttle body remaped
you need to take it to a shop with a vag or baum scanner to reprogram (or match) the throttle body with the ecm

Thanks for info,  the problem is not occuring all the time but when it does happen on the screen it comes up with emission workshop.  and after several attempts of switching engine on it starts.  I forgot to mention its a mark 4 golf w reg. wot will it cost to have it re-programmed.

What screen?  Emissions would be like cats O2 sensors muffler, exhuast stuff.  Is the emissions workshop a code?  I go to autozone, or any other parts place they have books that tell you what the code is and how to fix it.  Try that?

I have now replaced 2 dead batterys inmy Jetta and everything has worked fine, so I'm not sure about the whole re-mapping thing.

sometimes it happens
i get cars frome dealerships all the time with throttle problems after battery installs

bagel -> RE: Engine cutting off (4/20/2008 10:38:45 AM)

that's so weird.  How would that even happen???

Jrailer -> RE: Engine cutting off (4/20/2008 7:18:45 PM)

the computer needs to know where the throtle position is and it calibrates to it

i had a audi A4 that needed the fuel sender recalibrated (or remaped) after they put a battery in it
every now and then it happens you would think they would fix this problem but i see it in diffrent cars and difrent years from 96 on
