my 95 jetta has no reverse wont go in to first third or fifth..... anyone have the same problem???if so what did you do to fix it??

reverse would be somewhat fixable, but the other gears I think it's time for a new one or a rebuild..sorry that's my advice.

sounds like you have broken linkage
have someone move the shifter and look at the linkage you should see a broken part  looks like a dog bone on the early transmitions
and the newer ones have a cable shifer that has a small plastic pivot that goes bad

I am going thoughthe same thing now and thought it was the linkage but it turned out to be the tranny... I am looking for one as we speak.
