I just bought this 86 Jetta 1.8 ..8 valve...and am having problems getting the timing set up. I line up all the dots, put the belt on and start it up...it runs for a few seconds then sputters and dies....it will run at high rpm's for a while..help
I figured it out.....intake boot cracked and ground wire broken...runs like a champ

do you know exactly what the timing sequence is?  Is it a coil pack or distributor?
