RadRobbie -> 2002 GTI power (4/26/2008 8:34:41 PM)

Hi all,

Just bought a 2002 Golf GTI.  I opened the hood and the engine cover says 20 valve 2.0 turbo.  Is this correct? I was under the assumption that they were 1.8 liter turbo motors.
Any help on this question is greatly appreciated.

I bought it for my son and he is very stoked.  I ran the CARFAX and it is clear.  No major issues.

Golf GTI 2.0 Turbo??  I don't think so, as far as I know, they are making 2.0 turbo's now, but not in '02.  It is, however, 1.8T, 20 valve, 5 per cylinder.  around 180HP stock....I think one of them has a 6 speed manual.
That's what I know about golf's, but if it says yours is 2.0 20 valve, maybe but it is, but I don't think so.

I have an ''02 Volkswagen GTi, and it''s a 1.8 liter turbo. 2006+ models had the 2.0 FSI engine. Unless they swapped the engine out for a newer model engine (which i doubt), the last owner put a bad label on the car.

Separately if it is a swap, it is impossible to have one 2.0 TFSI in a GTI of 2002. The only engine available in this car was the 1.8T of 150/180ch (I do not know exactly for the US market).
In the worst case made measured the power not a garage and if it has less 190/200ch it is than it is not a 2.0TFSi

If I''m not mistaken, I do believe they made a 2.0L version Golf, but it wasn''t turbocharged. So that could possibly be what it is.
If you really need to know, just take it to a dealer, the VIN will tell you what size engine it is.
