1998 Jetta GL 2.0 5spd. 107,000 miles.

I'm in the process of finding a replacement transmission for my car. The trans code on the paper tag in the trunk says AMC, but the code thats on the bottom of the transmission itself says CHE, so I'm going with that one because it's stamped on the transmission. I understand that there's 3 different transmissions available for this car, codes: DFN, DFQ, and CHE.

The engine code I have is ABA. I was told today by a Volkwwagon mechanic that because I have this engine code, ABA, any tranny will bolt up and be fine. Is this true? I want to make sure before I spend the money and have it not fit.

Please let me know guys

Thanks.
