I have an opportunity to pick up a '99 Jetta VR6. I love the way it drives, but I'm a little worried about how it will hold up. Just under 100K. The interior is pretty beat, but I'm not that worried about that. I'm more curious about the meat and bones-will the engine, transmission, etc last? It seems like there are a lot of bad reviews out there. Are people just whining because their cup holders wore out or is this really a lemon?

From everything that I've gathered people generally whine because THEY got a shitty one, which is possible with any make and model car.

Generally, as long as it was well maintained (craptastic interior may be a sign of poor care) it'll be a good car with a few things needing replaced every now and again.

my VR6 has been awesome!  a few minor things hear and there, but it's taken a beating and I love the car.
