Touch-up Issue

rockhoppfs -> Touch-up Issue (5/12/2008 7:37:39 AM)

I bought my first VW a couple months ago -- a new laser blue Jetta.  I had to have the windshield replaced within two weeks because a rock hit it in a snowstorm.  The company that did it gouged the pillar above the door, so they paid to have it touched up (this was all done through the company I bought it from.)  After I had them redo the touch up because it was poorly done, I noticed the rear quarter panel was dull.  I sent it back to have it redone a second time, and it came out better, but the dullness is still noticeable.  Their reasoning is they needed to blend the clearcoat and that explains why there was work done on the quarter panel, and because the car is so new they are having problems because solvents are still being released underneath this 'new' clearcoat.  I'm not buying it, but I'm also not an expert when it comes to detailing.  I really don't want to bring the car back to them since they can't get it done right after three times.

So, my question is if I have the car detailed, will that get rid of the dull spots?  How long should I wait before I do this?

Sounds like a rookie painter, I had work done at a proffesional shop and I couldnt tell the new from the old paint, try a different shop...

You can buy a thing of clear coat and DIY...just make sure you wet sand the paint before you do it.
