How many miles can be expected from a 2000 VW Beetle before problems start?

I had a 1999 gas bug for a few years and started to notice some problems about 100k miles. Nothing real serious, but nusance problems in the electrical system. Mechanically it was fine and gave great mileage. Now have a 2006 diesel bug with 30k on it and no problems for the past two years.
