its an 01 jetta and before any one says it


THARE IS NO DIPSTICK!!!
 
 
  i dident mean to yell i just got worked up..
 
seriosly thoue, i now thares a plug you got to look in or somthing but i dont know whare it is. if u have pics that would b sweet

I take it this is a manual trans?  It's on the drivers side end of the trans above the VW sign.  You'll need a 17mm allen wrench.

Unfortunately you have to take it to the dealer.  They have some special tool that reads the temp to determine if the fluid is good and up to level.

start car and pull small bolt out of pan if a small stream comes out you are fine
the allen bolt fits into a tube that is in the pan so you wont loose your fluid
if it is low you wont get any out of it and you need to top it off
to do that you need to pull the cap off of the filler tube on the front of the trans
it usually has a red cap on it and you need to pump the fluid in
you need to get vw trans fluid DONT PUT DEXTRON IN IT
