My shift knob is skicking in gear over 2000 RPM, it has to be yanked out. It also does not want to shift into 3th, 4th, or 5th, however if I pump the clutch a couple of times it goes into gear ok.

The Mechanic said I need a new clutch, but I thought that clutches last the life of a car.  my car has 100K mile it.  Any help would be great.

You'll have to check whether its a hydrolic or mechanical clutch and whether it is self adjusting or not. Clutches wont last the life of the car. it all depends on the driver. a clutch works with friction plates that allow some give untill the cluch engages. once those plates are gone however..... time for a new cluch. it could just be needing adjustment.
