Hello everyone- We have had a 2001 Turbo Beetle for five years now, with only 35,000 miles on it. Recently, we have been having problems and took it to VW for repairs. The instrument cluster was lit like a Christmas tree and was beeping. It had over 20 error codes and needed a new alternator. We got a new battery, but it still goes dead if the car isn't driven for a week or so. Any ideas on what could be drawing current? Now the "Check Engine Indicator" and the dealer says the codes are: 1. Long Term Fuel Trim Add Fuel Bank 1 System too rich 2. Engine Coolant Temp Circ. High Input sporadic The alternator and related repairs came to almost $1000 and I would like to see If I can fix the recent problem myself to save money. I am an experienced mechanic on domestic cars, but I need help researching this car. Thank you all for your help, Lin and Ivan

Thanks for the advice. Any idea where I might locate the sensor on the 1.8L turbo engine? Also, are there any publications on that engine available to me at parts stores or online? I have a 1969 427 Corvette which I have completely overhauled as well as rebuilt the fuel injection system and feedback sensors on a 1990 L98 Corvette, and have all the Helms and factory service manuals for them. Are there the equivalient manuals available for the VW? Thanks, Ivan
