Engine Sputtering

I Have a 1971 Superbeetle, and when i give it gas, it starts to sputter. What would be the causes of this? Too lean, too rich, etc. Thanks!

could be too much fuel or bad spark plugs, sounds like the spark is getting blown out?! Try changing your plugs, or adjusting the carb.
