hey guys im new to vws and i need help. i need to figure out if my car is obd1 and obd2 and what that means. whenever i look to buy aftermarket things for it that question always comes up. thanks guys.

the obd outlet is where you plug a scan tool to access your On Board Diagnostics... the obd1 or obd2 may just be a different plug? i dunno, its usually located under the steering wheel somewhere maybe that would say obd1 or 2

Okay so i found my plug it is purple doesnt say if it is obd1 or obd2. I want to know because everytime i look for an intake it asks for that and if it is has the factory air pump.

every car sold in the us after I THINK 1998 is obd2 by law you will have to look up the exact date but i think that should help. if it was before that date( what ever it is ) just ask you dealer, thay will know.

EDIT: if you dont live in the us (i forget many people dont) im not much help as i can barly keep up with amarican laws. but agen your dealer should be able to help

1996 obd2
in fact any vw after 1994 is most likely to have a obd2 plug above cig lighter next to ash tray
or under dash on newer ones

smaller 2 pin plugs for earlyer systems white and black sometimes a tan one too
found under shifter boot
