Hey All, I have a '93 Passat GLX with a V6 and a 5 speed manual transmission. It has a blow head gasket. I'm looking for a used replacement motor, a parts motor, or general repair advice. The car is oterwise in nice condition and the motor runs well enought to get me back and for to work each day, but I can tell it wont last long before I have to repair or replace the motor. Any and all advice is most welcome! Thanks!

Seems to be quite a few members here from our northern neighbors. Ok I got the Replace the head gasket from several 'in person' advice folk too. I get it. Next question for Ya'all is is there a place to get the head bolts? Which, according to the local dealer, are one time use ONLY and must be replaced! He also noted that there are THREE DIFFERENT bolts in use on my engine totalling close to four hundred dollars! TEN DOLLARS for ONE BOLT! Seems pricey to say the least. The Gaskets required are far cheape by comparison at around $100. for a partial set which includes the head gasket and a few of the others that will be required for the job. Are there any aftermarket parts houses that cater to VW that could reduce my costs on this! The car is sharp but, I have three kids to feed too! Need to save at least some miney on this process. Thanks again.

Look for a VW parts store around your area, almost all major cities have them, they source Audi, VW, etc etc .... If you're going to buy parts NEVER buy from a dealer, they have only one intention and that's to rip you off blind. -Jeff

Thanks. Yes I checked a couple online parts stores and almost all of them were half the price of the dealer or LESS! Armed with that knowlege I feel a bit more comfortable shopping at a regular or specialty parts store. Thanks again for the advice. Is there a particular online source that is known for good prices and service? Jim

I can't say that I do since I never shop online (personal preference) I prefer to go to the stores and find my parts... Dealers SUCK!! even for warr. sometimes lolol
