I recently purchased a 2002 Passat with a 1.8 engine. The oil light came on, then STOP. I''m going to have to repair this car myself, I sunk every cent we had into buying it and don''t have the money to put it in a shop. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Then STOP? Did you try changing your oil? May just need some fresh stuff, could always run a engine flush before the oil change...

We did park it, change the oil, flush the engine and the light is still on. I need advice for tearing the engine down and cleaning the sludge.

whoa doont go tearin up the motor, try resetting the ecu first and wait for the light to come back if so. Pull the batt cables hold them together for 30 sec to drain the memory. Re connect and turn the key to on position to alighn the trottle body, wait for clicks to go away and restart

WAIT! Don''t do anything to your car yet. VW has a warranty extension specifically for this problem in the 1.8T Passat for eight years/80,000 miles if I remember correctly. You will need to provide maintance records, and if you can show you''ve had proper maintenance, it will probably be covered. Talk to your dealer, or call VW customer service at 800-822-8987 to find out if your car is covered, but it should be. Hope that helps......
