My 00 Jetta''s barrel lock is seized/damaged. Ive tryed everthing to fix it with no luck. I have no FOB key, so i cant lock my car. I''m thinking about getting an aftermark alarm/keyless entry sys. Is this an option? Are they hard to install? Will this be my cheapest option?

Thanks
Matthew

As in your drivers door lock is damaged? Why not just buy a new lock or get a keypad made for your car from the dealer? I know they are expensive but its worth it IMO

yeah, the drivers door lock is damaged. My options are to replace the lock and key, get a new OEM FOB, or get an aftermark one if that is possible?   Prostart make one from canadian tire.

ProStart 4-button Remote

  • Keep an extra remote in the house just in case you lock your keys in the car
  • Includes trunk release, door lock/unlock and panic button
  • Works up to an 800-foot (240 m) range

Would this work for a Jetta IV? Its only 30 bucks :)

I found it, looks like your typical alarm, nothing I would think could be safer than an immobilizer chip in your stock remote, you cant steal it without the key, the ecu will tell you your naughty! Ha, I would stick stock you would have to tow the car to steal it if its immobilized. Thanks VAG for the awesome safety feature!
