I have a reoccurring problem with a hardening break pedal. It’s like if you turn off the car and hit the brakes. It was usually only with the car cold so I neglected it. Now it throwing codes like “secondary air system problem, malfunctioning catalytic converter, vacuum leek, misfire and such.” Nothing huge but it’s starting to become a problem. My question is if the lines for the air pump don’t want to stay on could that be causing the loss of vacuum? Because I know the loss of vacuum could cause the misfire and hard peddle. And if the lines are not staying on I would imagine that that would cause the cat to not function properly. And I forgot to mention that the MPGs are not what I call well. Last time I checked it was 22-23 city and i dont know highway but it wasn’t good, But now I think it’s worse. So maybe it all connected. The big question is dose the air pump produce vacuum? Or am I full of s!@#. What do you guys think?

I would guess your brake booster vacuum line is leaking. If that''s not it there should be a map of your vacuum system above your radiator. Just follow the lines and listen and feel for a leak.

if you put too small of a breather filter on your secondary air it will throw a code for improper flow, interesting that you got a vac leak code, never heard of this happening. Please explain futher on this code, maybe the number please or list all your numbers would be better ie: pxxxxx

thare are 3-4 different codes that have came up and not that im trying to b a pain or ungreatfull but i can not look up the 2 remaining codes till sunday or monday because of work. but i can tell you that the one (secondary air system problum code is relaited to the hose coming of the sensor. the problum with the vacume leek is the big concern for me, in that i hade it cheeked out at a shop when it first started and thay were un abel to come up with anything. thay test drove it for two days and smoke tested it and nada. now i know i need a new mechanic but $100 to tell me nothings wrong is a big problum for me. i have done my own testing with a can of starting fluid spraying it around the vac lines and still nothing. and iknow im not being parinoid because of the codes and loose of brake presure. im at a total lose, totaly frustrated and about to drive into a lake.

you can make your own device to test leaks, search ol google, it involves a 2.5" pvc end cap i think, a clamp to clamp down on the turbo intake pipe, a fitting, an air compressor and some soapy water. Not sure who told you to spray starting fluid but thats not right

the idea was to monitor for a change in ideal . i heared this from a few diff people including a licensed mecanic. but all it did was clean my hoses.( did a pretty good job to) no noiticeabl change in ideal. although i did look under the hood agen and noticed that the hose for the air pump whare i hooks to the sensor on the right side of the block was completly off. after i put it back on the code went away but dont know yet about the brake thing.

at the risk of beating a dead horse i wanted to update you all on my problum. it did end up ( aleast 90% of it) the air pump hose. i just half asss clamped it on and most the problums went away.the brake thing happend once after fixing it but it way better than it was. i dont know why it has any thing to do with my brakes but it aparently dose. the only thing i can think of is if the moter wasent running right it might not produce the vacume to run the system. as for the peforence, the codes , and the gas miles thay have all resolved.
