if you look there will be some clips on the sides and two if i remember right on the bottom of it. once you have those release it will come off. it's a bit tricky to get off but some good force will do it.

i keep looking, but cant find anything. the cover that you are talking about, is it from a 96? i just cant find any clips, except the ones that were on the top half of the cover. i had someone else look and they didnt see any either.

thanks

jason

yha it is from a 96. what engine is it??? if you cant find them just use some downward force to get it off.

you might need to take off another cover that's attached to it, bolts or screws, look on the left

ok i just dbl checked mine and here is what i found.

(this is off of a 2.0l 96 jetta)
1) there is two clips on the uper sides, release those.
2) then just pull up a bit, it might stick so dont be a frade to use some force (not to much tho)
3)and then pull 'r' out of the top side

havent had time to get on here for a while, bt i eventually broke off the cover. now this is th enew problem.

i got the timing belt on, but am not sure if i timed it right. can anyone explain on how to time a 96 2.0 jetta. i think that there could be other problems, but not sure. it feels like it wants to start, but just wont totally turn over. like i said, the car sat for about a year, it had a half tank of gas in it. the book says that it could be the starter or starter solenoid. maybe bad gas, but i dont think that i timed it right

maybe a good explanation on how to time a vehicle would help cause the book doesnt really explain it. thanks

well seeing that it sat for that long it might be hard starting. it would be very rough and unstable rocking thuping shaking if it was not timed right. i would try some type a starter fluid to try to get her to turn over.
