I just bought an 88 vw fox and love it. however i have run into two problems; 1. the car will only start when jumped with another car. I have tried to use the battery chargers and they will not work. Figured out the alternator was not completely charging the battery to its full potential so i replaced the whole alternator the shaft was bad. once replaced it started perfectly. shift it off and turn it back on 3 or 4 times. then i drove it home, parked it and tried to start it up the next morning and it would not turn on, the lights will come on but not turn over. anyone have any clue what could be the problem? 2. I need to replace the shift linkage bushings and can not find a place who has a kit or the parts anywhere????

Like J said check the ground, also check for anything like a stereo or tail light grounds that may be drawing power even if the cars if off. Ive seen tailight bulbs barely on and draining power before. Anything electrical could prove to be the culprit check everything... God I hate electrical work
